Argh…Me Pirate Party

{ Entertaining and Parties } Fri, 06 November, 2009

A Pirate theme is fun for boys and girls of all ages.  With the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, demand for pirate booty has grown, resulting in a bounty of very cool fixings for a birthday party. So go all out and immerse yourself in pirate lore from invitations to goody bags.

The Invitation
We always say the right invitation will get your guests excited for the festivities.  We love the customized treasure map theme or a fill-in-the-blank traditional pirate motif.

Setting the Scene
Creating a pirate hideout for your little buccaneers is so much more fun when it’s easy to find great stuff to fit the theme.  You can go either spooky or cute, depending on the age of your revelers.

  • Set up a table covered in pirate red and white striped fabric or a gauzy fabric to display the cake, drinks, loot bags, activity maps and pirate hats
  • A wall decal instantly transforms your space for the party, or you can use it on the front door to welcome guests as they arrive
  • Go to town with your pirate themed cupcakes and show them off on a tiered pedestal
  • We love these pirate paper cups placed in rows on the table as part of the decor
  • Pirate hats and red polka dot scarves do double duty as costumes during the party and favors to take home
  • Scatter clusters of gold coins, trinkets and jewels around the table

Hunt for Pirate Treasure

  • Buy or print your own treasure maps and fill them with clues to finding hidden treasure in your backyard, party space or house
  • For older kids, use mystery clues and riddles to make the hunt a bit more challenging and leave prizes along the way as they figure things out
  • For younger kids, create more of a scavenger hunt with visible markers they can collect
  • Fill a chest with fake jewels, rings, necklaces, gold coins (chocolate ones if it’s not too hot) for the treasure

The Cake

  • Create a treasure map cake with a little help from this cake decorating kit
  • We love serving cupcakes and this kit comes with the coolest accessories for creating piratey creations
