Come Sail Away in My Room

{ Nurseries and Kids Rooms } Mon, 26 October, 2009

A nautical theme is a great way to incorporate clean, modern design in a kid’s bedroom with lots of potential for fun and creativity.  When transitioning from nursery to toddler room and beyond, only a few elements need to change to make it age appropriate.

Our first step is always to choose a fresh, fun color palette from which to build.  This is the foundation for all of our designs, and then we love to mix and match patterns within that family of shades.

Putting It Together

  • These bed linens provide inspiration without being too cute so they’ll take your child from toddler to teen.
  • Key to any kid’s room is a durable rug.  We love the geometric print on this indestructable outdoor rug.
  • Striped window panels (with blackout shades behind to control light) and finials fit right in.
  • Brushed nickel gives a modern vibe to the traditional maritime design of these sconces.

Once you get the basics in the room, it’s time to play with fun accessories that will make the room pop within your chosen theme. Read tomorrow’s Momologie newsletter for our “whale” of an idea.
