Halloween is a great time to bring a child’s imagination into full bloom. The downside is that it can be one of the most expensive holidays of the year. Costumes can be pricey (for something worn a few short hours), making a costume can add up once you buy materials, and don't forget your valuable time. So what’s a parent on a budget to do?
Costumes don’t need to be expensive or elaborate to be a hit with kids, and there are lots of traditional choices that can then be played with year-round, donated to a school for imaginative play or passed on to family and friends.
We set our budget at $25, and came up with selections packaged as a complete outfit, yet perfect for some creative interpretation and accessories.
Add some style…
Monkey - Decorate a basket for candy with a garland of plastic bananas or glue on silk leaves to create a jungle-inspired trim.
Indian Girl - Add flowers and feathers to your daughter’s hair, costume, treat basket or moccasins.
Fireman - Trim a red bucket with reflective tape or carry a water pail for collecting candy.
